Gamescom 2025 Breaks Attendance Record in Cologne

COLOGNE, Germany, August 24, 2025

Gamescom 2025 concluded Sunday after drawing more than 350,000 visitors and hosting 1,500 exhibitors from 72 countries, marking the largest event in its history. The convention, held August 20–24, featured major video game announcements, hardware debuts, and cross-media presentations that reinforced its role as the industry’s leading global showcase.

Major Announcements

Activision opened the event with the reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, scheduled for release on November 14, 2025. Set in the year 2035, the game introduces a new cooperative mode called Endgame in addition to its multiplayer and zombies features.

Other significant announcements included:

·       Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, an open-world title set in Gotham, expected in 2026.

·       Hollow Knight: Silksong, confirmed for September 4, 2025, including launch on Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2.

·       Resident Evil: Requiem, set for release on February 27, 2026, as part of the franchise’s 30th anniversary.

·       A teaser for Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the sequel to Black Myth: Wukong.

Hardware Unveils

ASUS and Xbox introduced the ROG Ally X handheld, launching October 16, 2025, positioned to compete in the growing portable gaming market. The companies also revealed the ROG Raikiri II Wireless Controller, offering customizable features aimed at competitive players.

Independent and Horror Titles

Indie and horror games featured prominently at this year’s event. Highlights included There Are No Ghosts at the Grand, a hybrid of haunted hotel management and survival horror scheduled for 2026; Cronos: The New Dawn, a Soviet-inspired horror title arriving September 5, 2025; and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, now dated for October 21, 2025.

In addition, Square Enix previewed a Final Fantasy XIV x Monster Hunter Wilds collaboration and announced the new Beastmaster job for release in 2026.

Cross-Media Expansions

Several cross-media projects were announced alongside the gaming content. Amazon released a teaser for Fallout Season 2, which will premiere on December 17, 2025. A Sekiro anime adaptation was confirmed, and Bethesda announced Indiana Jones: The Order of Giants downloadable content, arriving September 4, 2025.

Festival Atmosphere

The Gamescom City Festival, held concurrently in downtown Cologne, featured concerts, cosplay, and outdoor gaming activities, further expanding the event’s reach beyond the convention halls.

“The entire city is transformed into the gaming capital of the world,” said Tim Endres, Gamescom’s Managing Director.

Outlook

Gamescom 2025 highlighted both established franchises and new creative projects, reflecting the industry’s growing diversity and global reach. Attention now shifts to the upcoming Tokyo Game Show 2025, where additional announcements are expected.
